JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesia’s president has ordered an investigation into the videotaped beheadings of two men – allegedly by security forces hired to protect a palm oil plantation.
Farmers showed the gruesome clip to Parliament’s human rights commission earlier this week.
They alleged that security forces and other men hired by a palm oil company to protect disputed land in South Sumatra province have killed at least 30 farmers and villagers since 2009.
They told lawmakers the beheadings were carried out in April after the security personnel attacked a village, destroying dozens of homes.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s spokesman said a team of government officials and national police was heading to Sumatra to investigate the claims.
