Mini tsunamis hit Meulaboh, Sabang, Indonesia - The Jakarta Post
The Jakarta Post, April 11, 2012
The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) says small tsunamis
reaching up to 80 centimeters high have hit Meulaboh and Sabang in Aceh.
“The
tsunamis are a lot smaller than our prediction of three meter waves,”
BMKG deputy of geophysics Prih Harjadi said in an interview with local
TV on Wednesday.
The agency has extended the tsunami warning for
another two hours since the latest aftershock, of a magnitude of 8.1,
struck at 5:43 p.m.
Residents along the western coast of Sumatra are instructed to stay away from the shore until the tsunami warning is revoked.
