BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand’s Cabinet has approved financial compensation for victims of political violence in the country from 2005 to 2010.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said a $65 million (2 billion baht) budget was approved Tuesday to pay the families of those killed and those suffering physical and mental disabilities.

The violence was related to the ouster of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Yingluck’s brother was toppled in a military coup in 2006 after demonstrations that accused him of corruption and disrespect for the monarchy.

Increasingly aggressive protests by his supporters and opponents peaked in 2010, when about 90 people were killed in Bangkok as pro-Thaksin ‘Red Shirts’ clashed with security forces.
